"Crocodile Dundee" actress Betty Bobbitt has died at age 81. The actress suffered a "massive stroke" and spent four days in a hospital before passing away on Monday, her son Christopher Hill confirmed.

"I want to assure you that Mum was not in any pain or discomfort and, according to the medical staff and my personal experience of being there with her, she had no idea of her situation," he wrote in a statement shared to Bobbitt's official website."Mum always said she wanted to go in her sleep, so her wish was granted. We are ALL so so sad… but let us all CELEBRATE her life and the joy and hope and inspiration she brought to so many."

Bobbitt was born in Manhattan in 1939 and moved to Los Angeles at 18 to pursue an acting career. In 1962, she headed to Australia after landing a six-month deal with the Australian live TV show "Daley At Night" but did not return to the U.S. when her contract was up. Instead, she focused on carving a name for herself in Australia.

Bobbitt is best known for her roles in the "Crocodile Dundee" franchise, as well as "Prisoner: Cell Block H." Cast in the show in 1979, she was initially offered a thirteen-week role, but went on to appear in 430 episodes, until her character's exit in 1985. Bobbitt also made notable appearances in "Heelers," "All Saints," and "Neighbours," according to IMDB.

In addition to her work in film and TV, Bobbitt also authored a memoir, "From The Outside," in 2011.
