Courtney Stodden was 16 when she married 50-year-old "Green Mile" actor Doug Hutchison, and now she's opened up about the shocking union, accusing him of taking advantage of her. The model and singer-songwriter confirmed she was officially divorced as of Tuesday in a lengthy Instagram post that went on to describe how she was "verbally abused" and "taken advantage of" during the course of their nine-year marriage.
"It's an emotional day for me. God only knows how he's feeling, but I can tell you that it's for the better," Stodden, 25, captioned an old photograph of herself and Hutchison together. "I've been scared to even speak up about feeling groomed or being verbally abused during the almost 10 year marriage because I was a child and he was 50 when we married but I'm a woman now and it's time for me to put my big girl pants on and speak on this matter."
The couple got married in 2011.
Stodden went on to say how she felt "completely trapped," "manipulated," and "abandoned" by the adults in her life. Her environment became a "lonely and dark place."
She finished her post by telling Hutchison that she would always love him but she would always harbor feelings of anger toward him for leaving her feeling "belittled and confused" as a teenager.
"These things I shall overcome. I wish you well. But please don't ever do this to another minor again. It's not right, even if the parent signs off," Stodden continued. "Wait a respectable amount of time before marrying. Children aren't on your level. I'll always love you regardless. Be better. As shall I."
In an interview with Fox News, Hutchison revealed how he was blackballed from Hollywood after marrying Stodden.
"I shot my career in the head for love," he said. Not only did his career take a hit, but Hutchinson also lost friends and family, who refused to speak to him. "I was suddenly on the Titanic and everyone was fleeing except for me and Courtney," he said, adding that his manager and agent dropped him shortly after the wedding.
