Michigan Couple Kateri and Jay Schwandt previously had 12 children — all boys — and their 13th also turned out to be son when he was born this week.
Jay Schwandt
told "Good Morning America" ahead of the Wednesday birth that he and his wife had stuck with their tradition of not learning the baby's sex ahead of time, and that they'd hoped it might be a girl.
Kateri explained her own thoughts, adding that she "just assumed we’d have another boy because we know what we’re doing."
In any case, the arrival of their thirteenth son — who measured 9 pounds, 22 inches — was more than welcome, and Jay took to Facebook to write, "It's a BOY! Now we need to choose a name! BLESSED beyond belief!"
"Being a dad, having 12 boys, one more boy is pretty cool," he added in a follow up
interview with GMA.
The couple add the yet-to-be-named baby boy to their large family, which includes Tyler, 22, Zach, 19, Drew, 18, Brandon, 16, Tommy, 13, Vinnie, 12, Calvin, 10, Gabe, 8, Wesley, 6, Charlie, 5, Luke, 3, and Tucker, 1.
The baby was due this past weekend, but came a few days late.
Summing up the family household, Kateri said, "There's a lot of activity, a lot of commotion, a lot of chaos, but there's also a lot of love."
Asked if there would be a 14th baby, Jay responded, "You never say never."
