Country Time Lemonade will pay kids’ stand fines up to $300 each to help them take initiative to sell lemonade without fear of being fined or shut down by local governments.

The company’s initiative, Legal-Ade, has committed up to $60,000 to help families who run afoul of local regulations in kids’ attempts to have an old-fashioned lemonade stand, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Denver authorities forced three brothers ages 2 to 6 to shut down their lemonade stand in Stapleton over Memorial Day weekend after nearby arts festival vendors called the police and complained about the stand not having a permit, U.S. News reported.

The city did back off later and say the boys didn’t need the permit after they had already shut the stand down, but the story captured national attention, including that of Country Time, The Denver Channel reported.

The boys were trying to raise money for Compassion International, a children’s advocacy charity that supports poor children around the world, Fox Business reported.

“I was very surprised and shocked that all this was necessary for a child’s lemonade stand,” the boys’ mom told the Denver Post. “When I think back to my childhood, I had lemonade stands all the time. It never occurred to me that it wouldn’t be OK for my kids to do the same.”

Parents can apply to Country Time Lemonade for reimbursement of permits or fines and upload images of the paperwork, along with the child’s own description of what the lemonade stand means to them.
