Internet users became fascinated by the identity of Cruz, who at times appeared to be causing folks on Twitter to ride a roller coaster of emotions, from suspicion to amusement.

Some wondered what he was thinking and offered possible scenarios.

For some watchers, he looked familiar.

One thing most folks could agree on was that Ellis stole the limelight from Cruz, whose speech included him reading lines from “Duck Dynasty,” a popular reality show and “Green Eggs and Ham” by Dr. Seuss.

Even online commenters weighed in via Twitchy.

“Corner guy looks like my best friend from high school. Well, if my best friend cut his hair and dressed in suits instead of shirts with cut off sleeves.”

Wrote another: “If his hair wasn't so dark, he'd be a dead ringer for Ralphie [from 'A Christmas Story']. That look on his face looks like his parents just told him he can't have his Red Rider BB Gun because he might shoot his eye out.”
