Conor McGregor was charged with assault after an attack on a bus carrying cage fighters at the Barclay Center in New York City on Thursday.
McGregor, 29, turned himself in at the 78th Precinct Stationhouse in Brooklyn near the center where he was charged with three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief, the New York Daily News reported, citing authorities.
TMZ reported that McGregor and some members of his entourage hurled chairs and dollies at the bus while parked at the center's loading dock. New York police said a member of McGregor's group, Cian Crowley, 25, was also charged with assault and criminal mischief, per the Daily News.
UFC lightweight contender Michael Chiesa who was on the bus was cut and bloodied, per TMZ, and his UFC fight with Ray Borg was cancelled, The Daily News noted.
Chiesa suffered several facial lacerations when a window was shattered, the UFC said.
He and UFC fighters Khabib Nurmagomedov, Rose Namajunas, Al Iaquinta, Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Ray Borg were arriving at the Barclays Center for a promotional appearance before a series of fights that included the title McGregor used to hold,
UFC president Dana White told USA Today that McGregor’s group was let into the center, stormed the building and made it to the loading dock where they attacked the bus. He called the incident "the most disgusting thing that ever happened" in UFC.
The Daily News noted that the Nevada Athletic Commission fined McGregor $25,000 and 25 hours of community service for an August 2016 incident in which he threw water bottles and cans at opponent Nate Diaz during a press conference days before their fight.
