A Colorado man was arrested recently after he “killed” his computer, shooting it multiple times and “effectively disabling it,” according to a police report.
Lucas Hinch, 37, was cited for discharging a firearm within city limits after his frustration with his computer allegedly led him to take it into a back alley and
fire eight shots into it, a Colorado Springs Police Department report said.
The story generated a lot of tongue-in-cheek news coverage, as many people seemed sympathetic to Hinch’s feelings of frustration.
“When ctrl + alt + delete doesn't work, just
shoot the darn thing,” the Colorado Springs Gazette reported, adding later in the story, “The computer is not expected to recover.”
"He got tired of fighting with his computer for the last several months," Lt. Jeff Strossner told the Gazette. "He was having technology problems, so he took it out in the back alley and shot it."
Hinch told the Los Angeles Times he was happy with his decision to shoot the desktop computer that had been torturing him with the “blue screen of death.”
“It was glorious. Angels sung on high,” he told the Times. “It was extremely frustrating. I reached critical mass . . . It was premeditated, oh, definitely. I made sure there wasn't anything behind it and nothing to ricochet."
It’s a good thing a weapons discharge citation doesn’t get worse if there’s malice aforethought, too.
