Colin Trevorrow will return as director for “Jurassic World 3” as well as co-writing the script with Emily Carmichael, Steven Spielberg confirmed on Friday.
Spielberg spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the third installment of “Jurassic World,” which will be released on June 11, 2021, nearly three years after “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” which will release on June 22.
Trevorrow directed the first “Jurassic World” installment, which grossed $1.67 billion worldwide and was fourth for top grossing movies in history, according to Box Office Mojo. Trevorrow was co-writer and executive producer for “Fallen Kingdom,” but J.A. Bayona directed the film.
“It’s important to this franchise that we welcome new creative voices to keep our storytelling fresh and alive,” Trevorrow said to EW in a statement. “I’m thrilled with the tension and beauty J.A. has brought to ‘Fallen Kingdom,’ and I know Emily will add another layer of emotion to the concluding chapter of our trilogy.”
Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment are partnering on distribution for the film, Variety reported.
Chris Pratt will return as raptor expert Owen Grady for the film, an earlier EW article said.
Twitter feedback about Trevorrow’s return was mixed, but mostly positive.
