Country singer Coffey Anderson released a video tutorial offering advice on how to stay safe during a traffic stop, and the video has gone viral across the web.
The video, posted to Anderson's Facebook page on Thursday after Minnesota resident Philando Castile was shot and killed by police, had been viewed more than 31 million times by Monday.
Anderson, who is African-American, recommends turning your car and radio off and pulling your ID out before the officer approaches. He also recommends keeping both hands on the steering wheel with fingers out.
"If you're reaching down as he [the officer] walks up, you could be pulling a weapon, which could compromise his safety, which is going to make his adrenaline go up." Anderson said.
In the video Anderson said he wants to break down stereotypes.
"This is about going home. There is a big disconnect because at the end of the day it's about stereotypes. … I want to break the wall down between what we really don't know about each other to what we can learn from each other. Let's make a simple protocol that can get you guys some safer on the police side and on our side."
The video has prompted mixed reactions, with some people commenting that it shouldn't be up to drivers to make police officers feel safe, but rather cops ought to be responsible for keeping drivers safe,
CNN reported.
Twitter users also shared mixed reactions.
