Coffee in a cone has become the trendiest way to slurp caffeine. The idea is exploding on social media and, according to the Huffington Post, even has its own hashtag: #CoffeeInACone.
South Africa-based The Grind Coffee Company is being blamed for the concoction since the coffee-in-cone drink became the Johannesburg café's top beverage earlier this year. You can thank one Dayne Levinrad for coming up with the idea.
As the website Extra Crispy.com said on Monday, "Levinrad had the genius idea to blend the Internet's love for coffee and social media together with an off-the-wall idea that was guaranteed to generate interest in his shop. And boy has it: The #coffeeinacone hashtag took off like a rocket, with almost 1,500 posts in the last six weeks alone on Instagram."
Levinrad told "Today" Food that the idea capitalized on childhood nostalgia of the cone.
"Whilst I was consulting for a coffee company in Brazil, I needed to create a product that would bring people through the door of a new concept coffee shop to create a buzz, the logical idea was to leverage off social media, and so Coffee in a Cone was born."
As expected, "Coffee in a Cone" is off and running on social media.
As you may have noticed, no one in this story is counting the calories!
