"Cobra Kai" continues the "Karate Kid" legacy and has renewed an age-old rivalry with the release of a trailer for the YouTube Red series.

The upcoming YouTube Red series is based on the "Karate Kid" film series of the mid-1980s and early 1990s, and according to IMDB, revisits the rivalry between the original film's main characters, Johnny Lawrence (played by William Zabka) and Daniel LaRusso (played by Ralph Macchio).

Set 30 years after the events of the original movie's 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, the series is based on Lawrence's efforts to reopen the Cobra Kai dojo, which reignites his rivalry with LaRusso.

The upcoming series, which debuts at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 24 before premiering on YouTube Red on May 2, was originally intended to be a comedy, however, the latest trailer has a more serious undertone, SB Nation noted.

In the 1984 cult classic, Lawrence played the antagonist who bullied LaRusso, the good guy, until the tables turned at the All Valley Karate Tournament, where he ended up defeated by his rival in the ultimate showdown.

The trailer shows Lawrence, who encountered some setbacks during his life, look to get things back on track by reopening the old Cobra Kai dojo, Mashable noted.

Meanwhile LaRusso, who works as a car salesman, is not that keen on this.

"He thinks he can bring Cobra Kai back to the valley. Not on my watch," he said in the trailer, per Variety.

The feud that was buried all those years ago once again comes to the forefront.

The trailer, which was released on Wednesday, received over 663,000 views Thursday morning and sparked debates among fans.

"This is Johnny Lawrence's comeback story," one person commented on YouTube.

"Just a reminder that Johnny did nothing wrong! Daniel was always the real bully," another fan said.

"This looks epic this is going to be a journey for Daniel and Johnny. Daniel needs to understand that cobra Kai is only dangerous if the sensei is teaching violence but in this series it looks like Johnny is trying to help kids who don't know where they belong in the world and this will give him a new purpose in his life," another person commented.
