Cleveland Browns Unveil New — Brighter, Bolder — Logo, Face Old Criticisms

The Cleveland Browns unveiled a new logo Tuesday with only slight changes to the helmet logo, including a brighter orange and brown facemask. The team also went bolder on its wordmark.

New uniforms will be unveiled on April 14, and the team said the changes will "move the uniform farther ahead than the logo," ESPN reported.

The team kept the helmet logo to preserve tradition, team president Alec Scheiner said, according to ESPN.

The redesign of the Dawg Pound face was determined during a two-year process that included feedback from focus groups and surveys. A sneering Swagger was chosen from more than 100 designs reviewed, ESPN said.

“Our updated helmet logo is reflective of today’s modern Cleveland — the design honors the past while evolving into the future,” the team said on its website. “The iconic brown and white stripes stand tall over the orange helmet — a new orange color that matches the passion of the Dawg Pound. The new brown facemask represents the strength and toughness of Cleveland.”

The slight changes to the helmet logo drew criticism on the Internet from many, including The Plain Dealer’s Dennis Manoloff, who were “underwhelmed.”

“I hope it’s not too late for the Browns to walk this back and rethink it,” Manoloff said.

Twitter users shared their thoughts about the logo.
