Christopher Walken is not the easiest celebrity to get hold of. The actor has admitted he has never owned a cellphone or computer. He has never texted or emailed and does not have a Twitter account. Walken's revelation on "The Late Show" had host Stephen Colbert stumped.
"Somebody had to come and set this up because I don't have a cellphone or a computer," the 77-year-old Academy Award winner said while discussing his latest film "Wild Mountain Thyme."
When asked whether it was due to moral reasons, Walken confessed that it was because of his age.
"I just got to it too late. I think I'm right at a certain age where it just passed me by. And I never got involved in it because it would be strange to have any 10-year-old be much better at it than I am," he explained.
Walken told Colbert he had been given cellphones before but did not know how to use them.
"Sometimes on a movie they'll give me a cell phone, but it's more so that they can find me … like a tracking collar," he said. "If I want to use it, someone has to dial it for me, that kind of thing."
"Wild Mountain Thyme" was released last week to mixed reviews. While some praised the film, others ridiculed it. At issue was Walken's opening line.
"Welcome to Ireland. My name's Tony Reilly. I'm dead," he says, per Independent.
Critics mocked the star for his accent.
"Christopher Walken should never, ever be asked to speak in an Irish accent," one critic said.
"I’m a great connoisseur of ‘so bad it’s terrible’ but even I have to draw the line at the great Christopher Walken murdering an Irish accent," another added.
"Christopher Walken sounds like someone who left Ireland 20 years ago and lost most of their accent, but tries to put it on when they talk to their elderly mammy on the phone at Christmas," comedian Lolsy Byrne told Bustle.
"Wild Mountain Thyme" tells the story of farmer Rosemary Muldoon who has her heart set on winning her neighbor Anthony Reilly's love. It is available to stream on Amazon Prime.
