New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie says the presidential race is a “dead-even dog fight” and the final debate on foreign policy held last Monday night won’t change people’s opinions.
The Republican, responding to a CNN poll that gave President Barack Obama a 48 percent to 40 percent victory over GOP challenger Mitt Romney in the debate, said it shouldn't surprise anybody that the sitting president would do well on foreign policy issues.
"He's been doing it for the last four years," Christie told reporters Tuesday, according to a report in the
Bergen County Record.
But he said Romney held his own and put in a good performance.
Christie, a Romney campaign surrogate who was one of the first to endorse the former Massachusetts governor, has predicted since the primary season ended that the election would be close.
With two weeks to go, he stands by that prediction, although he noted there's still plenty of time for a misstep by either candidate. He also said he believes turnout will be the key to victory, no matter which candidate wins.
“I think it’s going to be a very interesting night two weeks from tonight,” he said.
