Christie Polls More Positive Than Negative

Tuesday, 12 April 2011 02:04 PM EDT

A new Gallup Poll shows New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a rising Republican star whose name has come up as a potential presidential contender, has higher favorability ratings than negative views about him, the Asbury Park Press reported Tuesday.

Even so, the majority of those polled said they didn’t know the governor, or they had no opinion about him. The poll surveyed recognized potential candidates who have said they’re not interesting in running for the White House. Christie has repeatedly said he’s not running.

The poll showed that Christie was viewed favorably by 27 percent of Americans, while 22 percent said they had an unfavorable view. One-third said they had never heard of him, and the rest had no opinion.

Among independent respondents, 26 percent felt positively for Christie, 20 percent negative. Christie's favorable ratings hit 41 percent among GOP respondents.

The poll had a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
