CNN anchor Chris Cuomo has a new radio show debuting Monday on SiriusXM, and the opportunity will allow him to reach a greater audience.
"I want more people to watch at night, and I'm hoping that this is an opportunity to get more people in the fold," he told The Hollywood Reporter of the forthcoming show on the non-partisan P.O.T.U.S. channel, "Let's Get After It with Chris Cuomo."
"This is an opportunity to do something that's precious, which is to actually talk to the bases of people that I'm trying to get on the same page with at night."
Since Cuomo joined CNN in June with his 9 p.m. show "Cuomo Primetime," the host has drawn thousands of viewers to the network.
"I don't need to sit there and listen to all of these outsized voices with competing banter," he said shortly before the show debuted, according to Variety. "I think there's enough of it."
With his new radio show, Cuomo said it was an opportunity to figure out what mattered to his listeners.
"I believe in engagement," he told THR. "You can't just ignore what you don't like."
That includes the opinion of his haters, which he said he welcomed.
Cuomo added that while most people on the radio were in the business of "persuading people that only certain things are right or good," that was not his intention.
"I actually want to access where people are," he said. "I don't want to find ways to make them go places. I don't want people to believe or disbelieve anything unless it's a matter of fact."
