A Comedy Central star died Thursday at age 32 from unknown causes, leaving behind his pregnant wife who is due with their first child in February, E! News reported.
Comedy Central confirmed the tragic news about comedian Chris Cotton, an emerging star, in a statement posted to Twitter.
"We're devastated by the loss of Chris Cotton — a hilarious comedian, a beloved member of the Comedy Central family and a joy to be around," the post read. "He will be missed."
Cotton hails from Philadelphia and was well known on the comedy circuit of his hometown as well as in New York. He had forged many friendships during his time as a comedian, and the news of his death set Twitter alight as the tributes and messages of condolences streamed in.
Among them was a heartfelt message from "Broad City" actor Hannibal Buress.
"A few weeks ago Chris Cotton randomly hit me up to thank me for a gig I got him YEARS ago that led to some other work for him," Buress tweeted. "I was in the middle of booking Isola Fest and booked him during the call. I was psyched to see him this weekend. RIP."
Sal Vulcano of "Impractical Jokers" fame also honored Cotton's memory on Twitter.
"So sad to hear about Chris Cotton," he wrote. "He was always kind and always real. And I always noticed him helping others get work and get booked. (including myself) His wife is due in February. Heartbreaking. Will tweet any info to donate as soon as I find out."
A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise funds for Cotton's wife.
"If Chris ever made you laugh, enraged or shake your head please pay that forward with a donation," the page read. "In the meantime, if you have a funny Chris memory feel free to share it below. You may help make someone smile. And lastly, tell your people you love them before you don't have the chance."
