Chris Christie’s weight has become the subject of much debate, most recently with “The View” devoting an entire segment to whether the audience could see him as president.
The audience responded that the main reason they couldn’t see the governor as president was because of his “heftiness.”
As panelist Elisabeth Hasslebeck tried to come to Christie’s defense, saying he offered something that other Republican candidates did not, Joy Behar interjected: “Krispy Kremes!”
A slightly upset Hasslebeck, who derided Behar for the joke, said: “Imagine this conversation about an overweight female candidate! We would be beside ourselves!”
But Behar wouldn’t retreat from her position and went on to recall that President William Howard Taft had to have a special bathtub made for him and could not use the White House facility “because he was too fat to get in it.”
“I don’t think the country’s ready for a fat president again,” Behar argued.
Fellow panelist Barbara Walters also disagreed with Behar’s assessment, saying she believed that Christie would ultimately be the Republican nominee for president.
