Chris Brown Denied Entry to Canada, Has to Cancel 2 Shows

R&B singer Chris Brown's criminal record continues to have career consequences, as he was denied entry to Canada this week and was forced to cancel two shows.

"The good people of the Canadian government wouldn't allow me entry. I'll be back this summer and will hopefully see all my Canadian fans!" Brown tweeted on Tuesday, People magazine reported.

A spokesperson for Canada Border Services said the country's privacy act does not allow comment on an individual case, but did say involvement in criminal activity is often a factor.

The denial of entry by a foreign country is not a first for Brown, as the UK refused him entry in 2010 over his criminal record.

According to USA Today, the 25-year-old was jailed last year for three months after violating his probation by getting into a street altercation. He was on probation for assaulting his one-time girlfriend, pop singer Rihanna, before the 2009 Grammy Awards.

Canadian news site CBC reported that Brown was arrested in 2013 for felony assault in Washington, D.C.
