China Anne McClain has known for a long time that she would be leaving "Black Lightning." On Friday it emerged that the hit CW superhero show would be canceled, but McClain admitted she had been planning her exit long before it was announced that the plug was being pulled.

In a video posted to Instagram on Saturday, the actress shared that she and her castmates knew she would be departing from the show even before learning "with everybody else" on Friday that "Black Lightning" was being canceled.

"What I did know and have known along with the rest of the cast since before we even started shooting this season is that I am leaving the show and was leaving the show," McClain said in the video. "This was going to be my last season, regardless of if it went on or not. For different reasons, that, to be honest, I don't want to go into. I just want y'all to trust me on it."

Season four of "Black Lightning" returns on Feb. 8, but McClain will only feature in four episodes. She did not reveal why she was leaving the show but hinted that she was fed up with Hollywood.

"There's been a lot to happen over this quarantine, and I'm not talking about the PC side of it," she said. "These people that are dying and the way of the world now. It's real. And all this is an illusion. This industry for what it is and everything that people look to and praise, it's not important."

McClain, who assured followers that her decision to leave was not due to tensions on the set of "Black Lightning," added that she was "doing God's work now, and I'm not doing anything else." She also urged fans to support co-star Jordan Calloway when he reprises his role as Khalil Payne in a spinoff of the show.

"Jordan, who plays Painkiller on the show, just got a spinoff. Please support him in that," she said. "God did that for him, and he's gonna do great. I know it. Please embrace him with open arms and support him. Show's gonna be great. This chapter in my life is closing. I'm so excited for what's next."
