A second convicted child molester has been killed at the hands of fellow inmates at the same California prison in just over a year. Both were serving sentences for lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14-years-old.
Agustin Duran, 66, was brutally beaten to death last Saturday night, days after he arrived at the Wasco State Prison to serve out a sentence of 55 years to life, Newsweek reported.
In February 2017, Jason Morris was found strangled in his cell.
Duran reportedly was attacked by fellow inmate Andres Ayon, 19, who was serving six years in prison for robbery and use of a deadly weapon.
According to a Wasco State Prison release, correctional officers responded when Ayon repeatedly punched Duran in his face and torso and refused to stop.
Only when a pepper spray grenade was deployed were they able to pull him off Duran.
Ayon was handcuffed and taken to a temporary holding cell while Duran was placed on a gurney and airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead the following day.
Ayon was treated for minor injuries and according to Wasco State Prison, “has been placed in the institution’s Administrative Segregation Unit while the incident is investigated.”
The prison in Kern County near Bakersfield was opened in 1991 and houses about 4,900 inmates.
According to KERO-TV, Jason Morris was serving two concurrent three-year sentences and entered the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation in November 2016.
