Chief Sealth High School senior Hafid Yassin found a larger fan base Tuesday when his
monster dunk hit ESPN's "SportsCenter" and social media, catapulting the Seattle prep basketball player viral status.
Yassin's moves weren't enough to help Chief Sealth defeat Garfield, but it was his dunk that really had
everyone talking, according to KING-TV.
A video and photo of the dunk showed Yassin's head near the basket's rim and his elbow above it, feats rarely accomplished by high school players. The video has been viewed more than 270,000 times on YouTube since being posted on Tuesday.
"The senior at Chief Sealth . . . jumped several feet off the ground without so much as a
running start," wrote Danielle Elliot of Yahoo Sports. "He was just standing there, waiting for the in-bounds pass one second, then almost a full body above his opponents the next. By the time he dunked the pass, his hand was a full foot above the rim. Even his chin was over the rim."
"This is not footage from NBA Jam," tweeted CBS Sports. "This high school dunk actually happened."
Yassin is a
6-foot-6 forward, according to Basketball-Society.com.
The dunking feat continued to buzz on Twitter Friday.
