Cher blasted people closest to Britney Spears for taking advantage of her mental struggles and using her as a "cash cow" as they fight over her conservatorship. Britney's family has been locked in a legal battle to determine who will be granted the right to oversee her fortune, but Cher feels they are neglecting the pop star's wellbeing.
"She Worked Hard, Was The Golden Goose, Made Lots Of [money]," she wrote in a tweet that included a link to an article that revealed Britney's sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, had been appointed trustee of her wealth.
"Got Sick, Now She’s The CASH COW," Cher continued. "Does anyone Who’s Making [money] Off Her Being Sick, Want Her Well⁉️ Someone Who Doesn’t Want Anything From Her Should Look Into Her Dr.& Her Meds."
Britney has suffered a string of meltdowns, which first became public in 2004. That same year, she set up the SJB Revocable Trust to protect her wealth and see to her children's financial future. Last week, it emerged that Jamie Lynn had been named trustee in 2018.
Britney is the "sole beneficiary" of the trust, but in the event of her death, her sister will be in charge of ensuring the funds are transferred to the trust. Jamie Lynn is now seeking that Fidelity Financial Management serves as adviser to her sister's investment and has the power to create "blocked accounts" to hold Britney's investments.
The news came days after Britney's father, Jamie Spears, filed a request asking the court to grant him and attorney Andrew Wallet the power to once again oversee the "Toxic" singer's personal and financial affairs.
Wallet voluntarily stepped down from permanent co-conservatorship of Britney's estate in March 2019, while Jamie relinquished his role as permanent conservator in September 2019. Jodie Montgomery, a licensed conservator, took his place, and Britney has requested that she remain in her position.
The conservatorship, which has been in place since 2008, has been extended until February 2021.
