Laughing is usually the best medicine, but not for Hollywood star Charlize Theron. It put her in the hospital for nearly a week.
Appearing on "
Late Night with Seth Meyers," the 43-year-old Academy Award-winning actress revealed how she "laughed so hard" while watching the film "Borat" that she wound up in hospital for five days.
"I had a pre-existing injury in my neck," she explained, according to
Fox News. "I had a herniated disk in my neck and a few of us went to see 'Borat.'" She did not give the injury much thought when she took her seat in the theater, but she was also not expecting the film to be so funny.
"Halfway through the movie I laughed so hard that my neck locked up and an ambulance had to take me to the hospital," she said, adding that she has still not seen the movie to the end.
Theron, who has starred in several blockbuster hits, won a Best Actress Oscar for her performance in the 2003 film "Monster." Her latest movie, "The Long Shot," premiers in theaters Friday.
The romcom, directed by Jonathan Levine, sees Theron play a high-powered woman preparing a run for presidency. She hires Fred (Seth Rogen) as her speechwriter and sparks fly but there is one catch: She used to babysit him, according to
IMDB. The film has received solid reviews and strong ratings.
