Chancey Luna, 'Bored' Teen, Gets Life for Killing Jogger

Chancey Luna, the Oklahoma teenager found guilty in April of murdering Australian man Christopher Lane, was sentenced to life in prison without parole on Tuesday.

According to The Associated Press, Luna was 16 when he shot Lane in the back while he was jogging on Aug. 16, 2013.

He fired from the passenger seat of a car driven by friend Michael DeWayne Jones, who was himself sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole in March. James "Bug" Edwards Jr., who was also in the car, testified in order to have his murder charge reduced to being an accessory after the fact.

Police said that the teens shot at Lane because they were "bored," while the teens said they never meant to hit the man with a bullet, just scare him.

Prosecutors argued during the trial that the teen's intent to murder someone was clear.

"He aimed it right at his back. ... It was a good shot," District Attorney Jason Hicks said.

Lane, 22 at the time, was in Oklahoma on a college baseball scholarship at East Central University.

Luna never testified during his trial, and the defense called his mother, Jennifer Luna, as the only witness.

"I wasn't there half the time," she said, noting that her son lived with her parents after he was born, and that his father was in jail.
