A ceiling panel fell in on a passenger during landing of a United Airlines flight in Washington, D.C., last week, Fox News reported.
The incident occurred Wednesday during a flight traveling from Amsterdam to Washington, which was uneventful right up until the plane's wheels touched the runway at Dulles International Airport.
An unidentified witness told Fox 5 that the impact of the landing loosened a ceiling panel, which fell onto a passenger, but flight attendants were only able to assist once the plane had come to a complete stop.
Until that point other passengers clung onto the panel that had fallen from the ceiling.
United Airlines confirmed the incident in a statement to Fox 5, noting that "an interior aircraft ceiling panel came loose upon landing and made contact with a customer."
Paramedics examined the passenger but no injuries were reported.
"We've apologized to our customer for this experience, and our maintenance crew has repaired the panel," the statement said.
The unidentified witness raised concerns about what would happen if the incident occurred mid-flight instead of during landing.
In April a 1-year-old boy was hit on the head by an oxygen tank that fell from the ceiling when an American Airlines flight from Hong Kong landed in Texas.
According to Jennifer Zanone, her toddler was sitting on her lap and upon landing in Fort Worth a falling ceiling panel and the oxygen tank hit her son.
In a separate incident, a United Airlines flight was landing in Newark from Houston when several interior ceiling panels crashed down, hitting passengers and leaving wires in the roof exposed, The Daily Mail reported.
