"Saturday Night Live" star Cecily Strong will headline the White House Correspondents' Association annual black-tie dinner on April 25, it was announced this week.
Strong is the fourth woman to perform at the event in its
82-year history, according to CNN. Comedians first began appearing at the dinner to roast the president and the press corps in 1983.
Strong's father, Bill Strong, was The Associated Press bureau chief at the Illinois statehouse, CNN noted.
"Her political humor is sly and edgy, and it comes with a Chicago accent," WHCD President Christi Parsons said in a statement.
Raised in suburban Oak Park, Illinois, the 30-year-old made her "SNL" debut in 2012 and has been featured as a co-anchor on the show's "Weekend Update" segment.
The dinner has previously featured comedians including Jay Leno, Steven Colbert, Cedric the Entertainer,
Conan O'Brien, and Wanda Sykes, Reuters reported.
