Catherine Butler, a 26-year-old from Rochester, New York, was picked up for a DWI twice in a three-hour span last weekend, both times while in full zombie makeup from a Halloween party.
Butler was traveling down Buffalo Road in Gates, New York, in her zombie costume around 2 a.m. Saturday when she was pulled over by officers
from the Gates Police Department, according to the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle. Lt. Jon Ballard told the newspaper that officers stopped Butler for driving without headlights.
Obviously impaired, Butler was taken to the station, booked for driving while intoxicated, and released when a friend picked her up.
But just three hours later, around 5 a.m., Butler was pulled over again on the same road — this time for reportedly swerving in and out of the lane.
She was booked and processed — again — before an officer dropped her off at her home, Ballard said.
WROC-TV reported that Butler has been arrested for drunk driving four times in Monroe County, New York, according to Gates Police Chief James VanBrederode. VanBrederode told the television station that he personally arrested her for drunk driving back in 2006.
"If you have a loved one, who has any type of substance abuse problem, whether it's alcohol or street drugs, cocaine, heroin, that until they get treatment for their illness, this behavior repeats itself over and over again," he said.
The Democrat & Chronicle reported that drivers charged with misdemeanor DWI in Gates are typically processed at the police station and turned over to a sober driver. Ballard told the newspaper that drivers facing felony DWI charges are usually arraigned the same day, many times within hours.
Butler did not have a significant criminal history outside the DWI convictions, which was the reason why she was released. She now faces two counts of DWI and two counts of driving with a blood-alcohol content greater than .08 percent, according to the Democrat & Chronicle.
