Cat Traps Family in Bedroom After Attacking Baby

An Oregon couple called 911 on Sunday after their pet cat attacked their baby and then trapped them in their bedroom.

The baby was not injured and was locked in the bedroom with the couple and the family’s dog until police arrived and captured the 22-pound cat with a dog snare, The Associated Press reported.

The family told the AP they'll get the cat, which has a history of violence, medical attention and therapy, but KGW-TV reported mom Teresa Baker said it may be time to find a new home for the black-and-white Himalayan named Lux.

The station posted an audio clip of the 911 call, during which the cat can be heard screeching while the caller described what happened.

"My cat attacked our 7-month-old child, and I kicked the cat in the rear and he just went off, over the edge. We are not safe around the cat. It’s a very large Himalayan. We're trapped in the bedroom. He won't let us out of the door," the caller said.

The cat climbed on top of the refrigerator, where police officers captured it.

The story has gotten a lot of attention on social media sites, with most feeling it's not safe to keep the cat.
