Cat on a Plane: Feline Stowaway Pops Out on Wing Mid-Flight

Forget snakes, it was a cat on a plane for an unsuspecting pilot and passenger in Kourou, French Guiana, recently.

A new viral YouTube video, aptly titled “Remove cat before flight,” was posted Sunday by Romain Jantot, who is believed to be the pilot shown in the video. The video’s description says, “A standard flight until . . . I still don't know if it got in after the pre-flight check or if i missed it.”

As the plane takes off from the runway, the pilot and passenger are blissfully unaware of their stowaway, who first makes its appearance roughly 38 seconds into the clip when it emerges from the left wing of the plane and crawls towards the cockpit.

As the cat hooks its paws over the wing’s edge, clinging to it desperately and looking frantically from side to side, the startled pilot finally notices his second passenger about one minute into the video before immediately beginning to turn the plane around to return to the runway.

The turn caused the cat to slip slightly from its perch on the wing as its fur flaps wildly in the wind and it begins meowing. The female passenger does not notice the cat until about a minute and a half into the video, after which she and the pilot laugh and exchange looks. The cat itself is not particularly thrilled, however, until the plane lands and the pilot hops out to rescue it.

Luckily, the feline was not injured. It has, however, become a YouTube star, as the clip has received more than 7.3 million views.

Comments on the video were varied:

“A furry stowaway. At least it didn't end in a cat-astrophe,” one commenter wrote.

“A Cat Stowed Away On A Glider And Suddenly Realized It Had Made A Big Mistake Poor kitty :( I'm very glad that it had a happy ending!” another person commented.

“This could've been fatal, not funny at all."

This video’s popularity on social media only adds to the studies showing that watching cat videos as a form of low-cost pet therapy aids viewers in dealing with their anxiety, depression, and other negative emotions, according to RT.
