Casey James Lawhorn was found dead after confessing to killing his mother and friend in a graphically detailed video posted to Facebook, International Business Times reported.
Police announced on Facebook they were searching for the 23-year-old Sunday, after Vi Lawhorn and Avery Gaines were shot dead, and on Monday they recovered his body near his abandoned car on Interstate 59 in Vossburg, Jasper County, Mississippi.
According to Sheriff Randy Johnson, Casey Lawhorn appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Times Free Press said.
Casey Lawhorn detailed how he fatally shot his mother and friend in the head with a stolen .22 LR in a chilling confession on Facebook Sunday.
In the post that has since been deleted, he described first shooting Gaines in the head while he was sleeping on the floor before proceeding to his mother's room and shooting Vi Lawhorn several times, according to USA Today.
"Don't give me or my family your thoughts and prayers," he said in the post, adding that his brother would likely suffer the most from the incident and that if people wanted to help, they should "actually do something, don't just think about it," adding that he was "sorry to him more than anyone."
At the end of the post, Casey Lawhorn said that he was sitting on the side of the I-59 south, where his car broke down, and that he looked forward to "the nothingness after death," the USA Today noted.
"I've spent a lot of time thinking about murder, wondering what it feels like. But I've barely felt anything," he reportedly said.
Casey Lawhorn allegedly contacted police after carrying out the double homicide.
"The suspect called us and identified himself and talked to our dispatchers for some time," said East Ridge Police Assistant Police Chief Stan Allen, according to The Standard.
"He told them that he had committed the crime and that he was going to a location north of our city to find a secluded spot to kill himself."
