By    |   Thursday, 19 Jun 2014 10:14 AM

Carrie Underwood's absence on social media this week is because the country singer is in Haiti on a mission trip, CMT.com reported Wednesday.

Nashville resident Rhae Lauren posted a photo on Instagram Wednesday showing Underwood with her hair pulled back and wearing sunglasses and a backpack. The caption read: "The girls of the trip getting ready to cross the D.R./Haiti boarder this morning. Excited for our first day. So proud of everyone and how much we were able to accomplish! @danitaschildren #haiti #dentalmissiontrip"

Danita's Children, founded by Danita Watts in 1999, is a nonprofit organization that rescues and cares for orphaned children in Haiti. Danita's Children, based out of Orlando, Florida, currently cares for more than 100 orphans, operates a school for more than 300 children, and serves more than 18,000 meals in the country each month, according to its website

"This year, Danita's Children celebrates 15 years of rescuing, loving, and caring for orphans and impoverished children in Haiti," the organization's website says. "We are so grateful for the Lord's provision and faithfulness. He has blessed us with amazing children, faithful donors, and a wonderful staff."

In February, the Country Radio Broadcasters non-profit presented Underwood with the Artist Humanitarian Award at the Country Radio Seminar in Nashville, according to The Tennessean.

"[The children] need us," Underwood told the newspaper after receiving the award. "They haven't made any wrong decisions in their lives. They haven't done anything to anyone that could be malicious. They live in the garden and they love and it's our jobs to take care of them."

Underwood also donated $1 million from her last concert tour to the American Red Cross while starting her own animal charity called the C.A.T.S. Foundation (Checotah Animal, Town, and School Foundation) in Checotah, Oklahoma, according to The Tennessean.

"Those kinds of things, I feel like, make the biggest difference," Underwood said at the time. "It's easy to give money to stuff, and I feel like there's a lot of stuff that my husband [Nashville Predators hockey player Mike Fisher] and I get to be a part of where we're like, 'Please don't put it out there.' You want to do things to help people, but not for stuff."
