Carol Burnett could be returning to television in an upcoming ABC comedy show, which would be the iconic actress’ first starring role in a sitcom.
Amy Poehler’s show, “Household Name,” has landed the 22-time Emmy-nominated actress for the new sitcom, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
ABC gave out a pilot order for the show on Thursday.
According to Entertainment Weekly, “Household Name,” which is being executive produced by Poehler, focuses on a family that wants to purchase the house of their dreams. The only problem is, they’ll have to put up with an additional roommate, the previous owner of the house who happens to be Burnett.
This multicamera comedy will be written by Michael Saltzman, who just so happens to be a huge fan of Burnett, as she was one of his idols in entertainment growing up, the Hollywood Reporter noted.
Saltzman has also penned “Mad Men,” “The Middle” and “Murphy Brown.”
Poehler won’t be alone in producing the project, as she’ll be working beside Brooke Posch, Dave Becky, and Michael Pelmont, according to Entertainment Weekly.
According to Broadway World, Burnett is best known for her time starring in “The Carol Burnett Show,” which appeared on CBS for 11 seasons.
Her big break came on Broadway, where she acted in “Once Upon a Mattress” in 1959. Burnett received a Tony Award nomination for her performance.
From there, she appeared on “The Garry Moore Show” for three consecutive years, earning herself a 1962 Emmy Award.
She’s appeared in films, including “Annie,” “Noises Off” and “Horton Hears a Who!,” which was her most recent appearance on the big screen.
Other TV shows Burnett’s appeared on include “6 Rms Riv Vu” and “Friendly Fire.”
“Household Name” marks Universal Television’s first “off-network” sale for a show picked up as a pilot, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
