Water lines on a Carnival cruise ship burst, and the floods that resulted resembled a scene from the blockbuster film "Titanic." But the damage was quickly contained and the watered passageway cleaned up.

The incident happened on deck 9 of the Carnival Dream on Friday after departing New Orleans, flooding the hallway and 50 guest staterooms, the Miami Herald reported.

Passenger Marla DeAnn Haase documented the scene on a video, which she posted to Facebook, according to the Herald.

"I literally thought this was a scene from 'Titanic,'" she wrote. Her post, stamped 6:33 p.m. on May 3, received more than 10,000 shares before it was taken down. The video, showing water coming from the ship’s walls and ceiling, was viewed more than 1.3 million times.

The incident was the result of a malfunction with the ship’s fire sprinkler system, the company later said in a statement.

The cruise line released its statement to Fox8Live in New Orleans.

“The water line break occurred at 6:00 p.m. and in six hours, our crew had replaced hall and stateroom carpeting, dried out other sections of carpeting that were damp but did not need to be replaced, and restored the 50 staterooms so that all guests could sleep in their beds that evening,” the statement said. “There were a handful of guests that chose to sleep elsewhere that first night and we moved mattresses to the spa for them.”

The Carnival Dream returned to its home port in New Orleans Sunday as scheduled.

Carnival later offered a full refund for all guests affected by the flooding, along with a 50 percent discount on a future cruise, according to Inc.

A future cruise passenger who saw the video just two days before her own cruise was reassured.

But someone else thought differently.
