A person who spent the night behind bars was so unimpressed with the java served at the local police department that they donated their lottery winnings to the officers to buy better coffee. The unknown detainee, who spent the night in the custody of the Cambridgeshire Police for reasons undisclosed, also mailed a note critiquing the department’s culinary offerings, Fox News reported.
Enclosed in an envelope received by the department recently were two scratched-off lottery tickets worth $11.73 and a note that read: "Dear Police, the coffee and food was s---, therefore go get a coffe."
The Cambridgeshire Police Department responded to the note on Facebook.
"Thank you to the author of this card who took the time to review their recent stay with us at Parkside and even bought us a couple of scratchcards in the hope we'd use the winnings to purchase some decent coffee," the post read. "We’ll keep the coffee as it is for now in the hope you won’t visit again and donate the winnings to a local charity."
Facebook followers added their input in replies to the post.
"Tbf I had a lasagne ready meal and it was nearly a god 8/10," one wrote.
"All there food is rank especially the all day breakfast," another replied.
"TRUST ME the all day brekkie is tonnes better than the horsemeat shepherd's pie!" a third chimed in.
A spokeswoman for the force told BBC that the author of the note did not reveal their identity, as, "like all good restaurant critics, they have chosen to remain anonymous." The spokesperson added that the brand of coffee served at the jail was "the best value for the taxpayer."
