Busy Philipps will host and executive produce a late-night talk show, "Busy Tonight," for the for the NBCUniversal-owned cable network E!
Philipps, best known for her roles in "Freaks and Geeks" and "Cougar Town" and her popular Instagram presence, will executive produce the series with Julie Darmody and Eric Gurian, according to The Cut. Production is expected to begin in the summer in Los Angeles.
Philipps, who recently costarred in "I Feel Pretty," is one of few women to host late-night shows, including TBS’s Samantha Bee, BET’s Robin Thede, and Hulu’s Sarah Silverman, The Cut noted.
Philipps confirmed the new show on Instagram and Twitter, referencing the article in The Cut.
ABC News noted that Philipps has gained popularity through her Instagram page, which has almost a million followers. She also has a book of essays due out later this year.
"Busy Tonight" is one of six new shows announced by the network, The Hollywood Reported noted. Other shows announced by E! include:
- Ashlee and Evan, a docuseries about Ashlee Simpson-Ross and her husband, Evan Ross.
- E! True Hollywood Story, a series of self-contained documentaries about Hollywood culture.
- The Funny Dance Show, which will pit four comic celebrities against one another.
- The LadyGang, a TV show based on the podcast "Girls Trip."
- Nat & Liv, a docuseries about designers and fashion and beauty bloggers Natalie Halcro and Olivia Pierson.
- The Twins Project, a docuseries following the lives of three sets of twins.
