Burt Reynolds is preparing to auction off more than 600 items of memorabilia, but the 78-year-old actor insists the sale is not an attempt to make money.

"I want everyone to know that contrary to what all the news outlets are saying, I am not broke," Reynolds told Entertainment Tonight. "I have been dealing with a business dispute for many years as well as a divorce settlement. I am simply selling some of my memorabilia that I have enjoyed for so many years but do not have use nor room for them anymore."

"Quite frankly, I am sick of so many pictures of myself in my own home," he said.

Reynolds has filed for bankruptcy in the past, and has also faced foreclosure on his Jupiter, Florida, home, according to ET.

The auction is set for Dec. 11 and 12 in Las Vegas and includes the 1998 Golden Globe trophy for "Boogie Nights," the red jacket Reynolds wore in "Smokey and the Bandit," and a football helmet from "The Longest Yard," the New York Daily News reported.

A 1977 Pontiac Trans Am that was used in promotions for the movie "Smokey and the Bandit" also is up for sale, according to a listing on Julien's Auctions website.

The auction will be based at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas with items viewable on the auction house website.

Other items include blue boots from the film, "Striptease," along with items from Reynolds' wardrobe and private art, gun, and trophy collections, the newspaper said.

Twitter users reacted to the auction.
