"It showcases who we are as a brand," said Fernando Machado, senior vice president of
global brand management at Burger King, according to USA Today. "It shows how we, as a brand, believe in self-expression."
According to Time, workers responded to customers' questions about what makes the Proud Whopper different by saying “I don’t know.” Once customers unwrapped it, they saw the message and tasted the same burger as usual.
The burger reflects the company’s new “Be Your Way” tagline.
“We really want to be more than burgers, fries and shakes and occupy a space that’s more meaningful to people,” Machado told Time.
