A bull mastiff named Koda traveled cross-country with a Nebraska truck driver to be reunited with his Arizona family on Monday.
Koda lost his family, Dani and Jason Windham, on the couple’s
wedding day on Aug. 4, the Lincoln Journal Star reported. That morning, the couple's three dogs knocked down a fence; two of the dogs were found, but Koda was gone. Unfortunately, the Windhams were moving to Arizona soon after.
Twelve weeks later, a farmer found Koda and took the dog to a veterinary clinic where a microchip scan pointed to the Windhams as the owners.
But now, they were states away and the couple couldn’t figure out how to get their dog to them, the Star said. So the newspaper posted a story and, within an hour, truck driver Jimmy Dimmitt called to say the dog could ride to Arizona with him.
"There was no hesitation on my part," Dimmitt, who said he loves dogs, told the Star. He, along with his girlfriend, Lori Wischmann, set out Sunday evening, texting the Windhams photos along the trip.
The two couples met up at a truck stop near Flagstaff, the Star said.
"Dani and Jason were so very thankful," Dimmitt told the Star. "I was glad I could do my part."
The Windhams had established a GoFundMe page to cover Koda's expenses for the trip to Arizona, and now those will be donated to Lost Pets of Lancaster County, Dani Windham said on the page.
