A new viral video making the rounds this week shows a naked man escaping through a Buckingham Palace window with a knotted bed sheet, but most sources are calling it a fake.
"We are not aware of any such incident," The Metropolitan Police, which is in charge of security at the palace,
told People magazine after receiving several phone calls about the video.
The video was posted to YouTube on Friday, and had already racked up more than 1 million views by Monday morning.
Many news outlets suspected the video was a cleverly-edited hoax, and an astute blogger soon got into the nitty-gritty of debunking the video. Conveniently, the blogger released a side-by-side comparison of the real Buckingham Palace right next to the doctored video.
People magazine also pointed out a few other red flags. The video was uploaded by a Swedish man using his real name, Anders Dahlberg. Upon searching his name on LinkedIn, it appears he bills himself as a digital marketer. He also only has one video on YouTube, meaning he has no prior video history to compare to the current hit.
Perhaps the video is just the first piece of an elaborate marketing campaign. Only time will tell.
