White flags mysteriously took the place of large American flags on both sides of the Brooklyn Bridge on Tuesday morning, and law enforcement officials are investigating the scene.
Large aluminum cooking pans were used to block the bridge’s lights at about 3:30 a.m., and by the time the sun came up, the
white flags — the international symbol of surrender — were flying, the New York Post reported.

The stunt has raised concerns about security at the landmark bridge, which is monitored by security cameras and patrol cars around the clock.
The bridge “doesn’t need to be destroyed to be a primary target, it just needs to be breached,”
terrorism expert Micah Halpern told the Wall Street Journal.
The flags atop the 273-foot Brooklyn Bridge towers are difficult to reach. Getting to them requires
walking along a cable about one foot in diameter, the New York Daily News noted.
Law enforcement officials said during a Tuesday news conference that the incident didn’t appear to be related to terrorism.
Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams plans to offer a reward for information related to the arrest of suspects and tweeted about the incident.
The news prompted a flurry of Twitter responses.
