Brooke Hogan has penned a heartfelt poem for her father, Hulk Hogan, just days after he was fired from the WWE and publicly apologized for a racist rant he once voiced.
"If you knew the dad I knew, you'd know his tender heart," began the poem, which was
posted to Brooke Hogan's Facebook page on Friday.
"Human isn't perfect, and perfect is not he, but I can tell you one thing, it's just not what it seems. Cause If you knew the dad I knew, you'd know he raised me well. He taught me folks are so much more than shades could ever tell."
The poem continues on, concluding with a plea for fans and critics to "please try not to be tough" on dear old dad.
The star pro wrestler was fired after the
National Enquirer reported that he once ranted to Heather Clem, one-time wife of his radio host friend Bubba the Love Sponge Clem, that his daughter was dating the son of a black billionaire.
The 2006 rant was reportedly caught on film, and came to light during Hogan's $100 million defamation lawsuit against Gawker Media, which once published a sex tape featuring the wrestling legend.
"I mean, I'd rather if she was going to f*** some n*****, I'd rather have her marry an 8-foot-tall n***** worth a hundred million dollars! Like a basketball player," Hogan said, according to the National Enquirer.
"I am racist, to a point," he added.
Hogan soon
released a statement of apology to People magazine, seeming to confirm the reports of the rant.
"Eight years ago I used offensive language during a conversation. It was unacceptable for me to have used that offensive language; there is no excuse for it; and I apologize for having done it," he said.
"This is not who I am. I believe very strongly that every person in the world is important and should not be treated differently based on race, gender, orientation, religious beliefs, or otherwise. I am disappointed with myself that I used language that is offensive and inconsistent with my own beliefs."
Throughout the weekend, Hogan made a few more statements on Twitter, and retweeted many fans of all races who had tweeted at him in a show of support.
