CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin is now sorry for her on-air comments that blamed military veterans for the Baltimore riots.
Baldwin, who anchors "CNN Newsroom" weekday afternoons, was interviewing U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings live when she made a comment to another anchor about a conversation she had earlier in the day,
according to Mediaite.
"We talk about training, we talk about having officers — I was talking to the city councilman last week. He said, Brooke, these people have to live in the community," Baldwin said on-air Tuesday, reported Mediaite. "There's a lack of emotional investment. And a lot of young people — and I've been talking about there so much. A lot of young people — and I love our nation's veterans, but some are coming back from war, they don't know the communities, and they're ready to do battle."
Baldwin was showered with criticism from numerous corners for the remarks.
"Needless to say, regardless of whether or not the opinion was truly hers, the fact that Baldwin made the argument on the air opens herself up for criticism and contributes little to the discussion as the city continues to clean up after Monday's riots,"
wrote Chuck Houck, of Newsbusters.org.
Baldwin initially stood by the comments, posting on Twitter that she was repeating a conversation she had with someone else. She then later apologized in a Twitter post two hours later and then on her own "CNN Newsroom" show on Wednesday, reported Mediaite.
