Britney Spears' father, Jamie, is calling on the court to allow for himself and attorney Andrew Wallet to regain power in overseeing the conservatorship over the pop star's personal and financial affairs. But Britney is opposing the move and wants Jodie Montgomery, a licensed conservator, to take the position.

In 2008, Wallet was appointed permanent co-conservator of Britney's estate but voluntarily stepped down in March 2019 while Jamie, who was named permanent conservator of her person, relinquished his role in September 2019 due to health reasons. When Jamie stepped down, Montgomery took his role.

Now Jamie is asking that he and Wallet be reinstated as co-conservators, according to legal documents obtained by People. It’s the first seeming confirmation of strong rumors that there is trouble between the pop star and her father.

Britney has been under a conservatorship since 2008. Court documents reveal she has more than $59 million in assets.

In a petition filed on Tuesday to the Superior Court of California, Jamie requested that he and Wallet receive the "power to obtain all documents and records" relating to Britney's estate. These include "all contracts, information relating to credit cards, bank statements, estate planning documents, receivables, and any and all powers of attorney."

According to the filing, Britney's cash assets amount to $2.7 million while her non-cash assets amount to an estimated $57.4 million as of Dec. 31.

Earlier this week Britney's court-appointed attorney, Samuel D. Ingham III, said in a filing that the "Toxic" hitmaker "strongly opposed" her father once again being appointed sole conservator. Instead, Britney "strongly prefers" that Montgomery remain sole conservator of her affairs.

"We are now at a point where the conservatorship must be changed substantially in order to reflect the major changes in her current lifestyle and her stated wishes," Spears' lawyer said in the filing.

Jamie said it was up to the court of California to decide what is best for Britney.

"I love my daughter," he added. "I love all my kids. But this is our business. It's private."
