As much as $600,000 in cash went flying from the back of a Brinks armored truck on I-70 in Indianapolis, sending drivers on a mad scramble to scoop up cash spread all over the highway.
Witnesses said a school bus driver drove away with an armful of cash and three men in a car grabbed a whole bag of money and sped away.
State police spokesman Sgt. John Perrine said investigators don't know exactly how much cash was in the truck when the back doors of the truck swung open and it lost its load about 9 a.m. Wednesday on on the city's southwest side. Perrine says it was definitely hundreds of thousands.
Officers blocked traffic as they helped collect money from along the highway. Perrine said an undetermined amount remained unaccounted for after some drivers stopped to scoop up cash.
Perrine said anyone who picked up the money could be charged with theft and he urged them to contact state police to return it.
