Brandon Victor Dixon, star of Broadway’s "Hamilton," said Monday on "CBS This Morning" that "there's nothing to apologize for" about the speech he made to Vice President-elect Mike Pence after the show Friday.
In the speech, Dixon asked Pence to "uphold our American values and work on behalf of all of us," and stated, "We are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us."
Afterward, President-elect Donald Trump chastised the cast on Twitter for “harassing” and being rude to Pence and demanded an apology for Pence.
Pence appeared on "Fox News Sunday" and addressed the issue, saying the show was well done and that he had not been offended by the speech.
“I do want to say that the basic element, the center of that message is one I want to address and that is I know this is a very disappointing time for people that did not see their candidate win in this national election,” Pence said.
Dixon said the show’s producers had asked him about an hour before the show to read the statement.
“I was honored to represent our cast and our show in that way,” he told "CBS This Morning." He said the cast and crew “wanted to stand up and spread a message of love, and of unity.”
Dixon refused to apologize for his remarks, saying, “There’s nothing to apologize for. Conversation is not harassment, and I was really appreciative that Vice President-elect Pence stood there and listened to what I had to say.”
