The Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie he-said, she-said saga continues as the actor said Wednesday that he gave her $9 million amid accusations that he failed to pay any "meaningful" child support, The Mirror reported.
In a court filing, Jolie's lawyer said on Tuesday that Pitt had "paid no meaningful child support" since she filed for divorce in September 2016.
Pitt responded with his own court filing Wednesday, claiming that he provided Jolie with an $8 million loan to purchase her current house and additionally forked out $1.3 million to pay for expenses incurred by her and their six children since they separated.
He said that Jolie's court filing was a "thinly-veiled effort to manipulate media coverage," The Mirror reported, but hours later Jolie hit back, claiming to have taken on the majority of their children's expenses during the past two years, USA Today noted.
Jolie's lawyer, Samantha Bley DeJean, said her client's initial filing was "both legally appropriate and factually accurate in all respects," adding that Pitt's claims were "a blatant attempt to obfuscate the truth and distract from the fact that he has not fully met his legal obligations to support the children."
DeJean said that Jolie and the children were forced to move from their family home in 2016, which Pitt chose to keep along with all its contents, and he was asked to assist in the expenses of a new home for them.
"But instead he loaned Angelina money, for which he is charging her interest on a payment plan," DeJean told USA Today, stating that the loan was not child support.
She explained that Jolie was asking that Pitt pay half their children's expenses but claimed he was not honoring that commitment.
