A bounce house flew onto a California highway Saturday with a kid inside, but the child escaped without any serious injuries, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The child was playing inside the bounce house in front of his home in Adelanto, California, when a strong wind reportedly made the inflated structure go airborne, and it landed on nearby U.S. Highway 395, where it hit a car, the newspaper said.

Sgt. Marc Bracco, of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department told the Times the boy fell out of the bounce house onto a lane of the freeway but traffic had stopped. The child only suffered scrapes and scratches, the newspaper reported.

"The kid got lucky," Bracco told the Times of what he called a "freak" accident. "The winds have been strong in the high desert all weekend — but that area, the winds were going probably a little faster up there."

The driver of the vehicle that hit the bounce house was shaken up but was not injured, the sheriff's department reported. Traffic on the busy highway, though, was snarled for about two hours as the bounce house was removed, the Times wrote.

A children's party was being held at the home where the bounce house was located, witnesses told KCBS-TV. They told the television station all they could do was scream as the gust took hold of the structure. The television station said the boy was taken by an ambulance to a nearby hospital.

It was the latest in a handful of incidents where bounce houses have taken to the air with children inside because of high winds. In April 2017, The Washington Post reported that a gust of wind lifted a bounce house into the air during a church function in Taylors, South Carolina, seriously injuring two of the five children inside.

In Houston, 10 people were injured when strong winds blew a bounce house more than 30 yards across a football field and into a fence during a school carnival in May 2016, WYFF-TV reported.

In a May 2015 incident in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a water spout moved on shore lifted a bounce house, throwing three young children 20 feet onto the sand below, the television station wrote.
