Boston Police Puppy 'Tuco' Is Breaking Online Hearts Badly

Boston Police's newest recruit, a puppy in the department's K-9 unit named after a character on the AMC show "Breaking Bad," is a real heartbreaker on social media.

The little German Shepherd is named after fictional Mexican druglord Tuco Salamanca, but he's on the right side of the law. Cops says the pooch will need to gain more than a few pounds to fit into his K-9 restraints and lots of training before he can go after actual bad guys, reported Boston.com.

A photo of Tuco posted on Reddit has received more than 1,100 comments in a little more than a day. The photo was posted by Massachusetts Vest-a-Dog, which assists in purchasing bulletproof vests and providing training and other essentials for law enforcement K-9 programs around the state. Boston.com noted that the nonprofit has purchased 380 bulletproof vests for dogs since 2000.

His photo posted on Twitter Tuesday morning was briskly retweeted more than 200 times within the first two hours.

Boston Police dog handler Troy Caisey told Boston magazine that a friend gave Tuco to him and he's slowly working with him.

"It depends on the dog and how he matures," Caisey told the magazine. "I'm doing foundation work with him now, and in a couple of months I'll know if he will make it as a work dog, and when he will start his formal training. I'm doing little things with him now, but no formalized training will start until later."

Caisey told Boston magazine that dogs usually don't start intense training until they are closer to one-and-a-half to two-years old. He said he might assign Tuco to another officer if things don't work out with him in training.
