A leaked video from Boston Dynamics shows an impressive new robot with wheels, a departure from the company's previous bipedal and quadrupedal designs.

The wheeled robot carries itself upright and is named "Handle" because it’s meant for handling objects, according to The Verge.

The new design has not yet been officially unveiled but was shown to investors by company founder Marc Raibert and later uploaded to YouTube by one of them, venture capitalist Steve Jurvetson.

In the presentation, Raibert describes Handle as “combining wheels with legs.” One possible use for a wheeled robot could be moving inventory around a warehouse, the Verge suggested, adding that a wheeled robot could be more efficient than one with just legs, although not as effective on uneven ground.

One cool trick Handle performs on the video is jumping over a traffic cone and a short wall, which shows versatility compared to other robots being developed by BD and other robotics companies. The robot also can raise and lower itself while balancing on the wheels and rides around like a cross between a Segway and an animal rearing up on its hind legs.

Boston Dynamics has produced cutting edge robotic prototypes for years but has struggled to produce commercially successful products that can be replicated on a large scale. The company was bought by Alphabet in 2013, but unless Boston Dynamics can speed up production timetables, its time with Alphabet may be limited.

No timetable was given about if or when robots like the one seen in the leaked video could be available for sale.
